Standard Australian Labradoodles

Welcome to Tortoise Island Australian Labradoodles, a home breeder of standard, authentic Australian Labradoodles located on Florida's Space Coast. We have one dog, Belle, descended from the original Australian founders of the breed, and she is a much loved family pet. Our 6 new puppies, born July 14, are being hand raised with lots of love. We live on a barrier island in the Indian River Lagoon, the most biologically diverse estuary in North America. With fresh Atlantic breezes blowing across a narrow barrier island, Belle plays on mangrove covered islands and swims in the dolphin and manatee filled waters. Happy dogs that get plenty of exercise make the best moms. Belle's babies are raised with love, they experience a wide range of stimulation and socialization.

Non Shed Curly Fleece Coats

Australian Labradoodles make ideal service dogs, guide dogs, and therapy dogs, instinctive hunting dogs, and perfect pets. Our goal is to produce healthy, intelligent, happy, easily trained, non shedding, largely hypoallergenic dogs, and donate as many as possible to those who need them. Belle has undergone extensive health and genetic tests, and the original breeding dogs in their lines were tested to be free of allergens. Pure bred Australian, Multigeneration Labradoodles have been screened every generation since the breed was founded. By strictly breeding within this gene pool our pups have the characteristics of authentic Australian Labradoodles, they will be loving, allergy friendly, non shedding dogs.

Home Breeder

We have spent much of our lives being devoted to Labrador Retreivers, first on a mountain lake in the Taconic Mountains of New York State, and now on the Banana River in Cocoa Beach, Florida. We are nature lovers and want playful, athletic, smart dogs that are happy in the water and the forest, but mellow and calm at home. Before our last Lab died we knew that allergies in the family would force us to seek a new breed, but what could replace our Lab? Lab people know how special they are.

Our search led us to an amazing dog. The Australian Labradoodle has the sweet personality and emotional sensitivity of a Labrador with a soft, non allergic, non shedding coat. Our house does not smell like a dog and nobody we know is allergic to our home any longer. Australian Labradoodles were developed in the 1980's to have these traits in order to be guide dogs that are non shedding and allergy friendly.

	Belle comes almost everywhere with us. She attracts attention since even dog people rarely recognize her breed and stop to meet her, and she is calm and gentle with everyone she meets. 	We follow the standards and ethics required by our breeder membership in the Australian Labradoodle Association of America and the Australian Labradoodle Club of America. Beware of breeders crossing Poodles and Labs, calling their dogs Labradoodles, F1B, F1, and more.
